The annual Gloucester Ridge Soaring Camp ended on a high in August - two flights to 18,000ft - leading organiser Michael Vince, Central Coast Soaring Club CFI, to sum up the 8-day event as "fantastic".
Some 32 pilots with 10 aircraft attended from CCSC, Hunter Valley Gliding Club, Southern Cross Gliding Club, Gliding Club of Victoria, Narromine and Canberra.
A total of 102 flights clocked up 119 hours, including one 5-hour flight. Although the weather was generally excellent, the Mogranis and 10km-long Gloucester Ridge failed to perform due to the absence of westerly winds. Nevertheless, many pilots managed to fly the range using thermals.
Michael commented on the town's hospitality, saying that the pilots had enjoyed many of the clubs and restaurants during the week.
Co-organiser and tug pilot, Bill Bartlett, who has operated at many of the camps during its more than 40-year history, launched all flights in his Cessna 180, Tango Tango Whisky.
