The gliding community in Australia has received the honor of being selected as the host for the 15th FAI Junior World Gliding Championships, scheduled for the 2028/2029 season at the scenic Lake Keepit Soaring Club in NSW. This announcement marks a significant milestone for the sport in Australia, providing a unique opportunity for the nation’s junior glider pilots to compete on an international stage.
Doug Flockhart, CEO of Gliding Australia, expressed his excitement about the selection and the future of junior gliding in Australia.
“Our goal is not only to promote junior gliding across Australia but also to set the stage for celebrating the crowning of new Australian world champions!”
The selection of Australia as the host country for the 2028 championships is a rallying call to the entire gliding community. Clubs, pilots, and volunteers are encouraged to get involved, whether through participation, support or simply spreading the word. Gliding Australia is calling on clubs to proactively identify and mentor junior talent in preparation for 2028, and to start looking at coaching and mentorship to build a strong national junior foundation.
We are committed to collaborating with gliding clubs and regions across the country, including the Australian Junior Gliding Club, YouthGlide, the Australian Air Force Cadets, and our dedicated members, to leverage this event to its fullest potential.
