A simple check of your JustGo record can prevent delay in receiving your GPC
Supposing you have completed your training. Your CFI fills out your GPC application form and you submit your application for a Glider Pilot Certificate. Then nothing happens. Quite often, the problem is not your flying. It is your records.
Before Gliding Australia can process a GPC application, the required prerequisite certificates and endorsements need to be recorded in your JustGo profile. Having them written in your logbook is not enough if they have never made their way into JustGo.
WANT A QUICKER GPC? CHECK JUSTGO FIRST
Before submitting your GPC application, take a few minutes to look at your JustGo profile. The current GPC Application Form requires you to have:
• claimed your A, B and C Certificates;
• a CASA licence / Flight Radiotelephone Operator authorisation or GAus Radiotelephone Operator endorsement;
• a Private Passenger carrying endorsement;
• an Independent Operator endorsement; and
• completed the requirements of the GPC Pilot Training Syllabus.
Important: For GPC purposes, the form requires the Independent Operator endorsement, not the Local Independent Operator endorsement.
YOUR LOGBOOK AND JUSTGO NEED TO AGREE
Many pilots accumulate certificates and endorsements progressively during their training. Your instructor may have signed your logbook correctly at the time, and you may have been exercising that endorsement for some time. But if the credential was never entered into JustGo, it will not be visible when your GPC application is checked.
IF THE ENDORSEMENTS ARE NOT IN JUSTGO, YOUR GPC APPLICATION WILL NOT BE PROCESSED
That fact can turn what should be a straightforward application into a series of emails and requests to locate and update missing records.
DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE END OF YOUR TRAINING
If you are working towards your GPC, start checking your JustGo credentials now.
As you complete your A, B and C Certificates and gain the required endorsements, make sure they are also recorded in JustGo.
This is particularly important for pilots who have been flying for some time. Some older qualifications may be correctly recorded in a logbook but may not have been transferred into the current electronic system.
Finding that out when you are ready to apply for your GPC creates an unnecessary delay. Finding it several weeks or months earlier gives your club time to sort it out.
CFIs — YOU HAVE A PART TO PLAY
The Club CFI also has a specific responsibility in the GPC application process. Before signing the application, the CFI must check the pilot's JustGo records and confirm that the pilot holds the required A, B and C Certificates, Radiotelephone Operator endorsement, Private Passenger endorsement and Independent Operator endorsement. Only the Club CFI can sign the GPC application.
Clubs can therefore make the process easier by checking a pilot's JustGo record before they reach the end of their GPC training.
A simple review part-way through training can identify missing credentials while there is still plenty of time to correct them.
READY TO APPLY?
Once everything is complete, the signed GPC application is uploaded through JustGo.
The current form instructs applicants to log into JustGo, open the Credential tab, select Add Credential, choose GPC Qualification, complete the required fields and upload the signed application.
So, if you want a quicker GPC:
* Don't wait until you submit the application to discover that your JustGo record is incomplete.
* Check it now.
* Make sure your certificates and endorsements are there.
* If something is missing, talk to your instructor or CFI and get the record sorted out before you apply.
